8 checks before sharing video or audio: quality, sound, subtitles and size
An export finishing is not proof that the recipient can play it. Check the actual file and keep your original.
Workflow
Keep the original and working file separate. Save a copy before editing so you can restart after a poor setting choice. A project stores editing state and may not be the playable file the recipient needs. Do not delete the original just because an export notification appeared.
Check the receiving device or submission site first. An MP4 extension alone does not identify every video and audio codec inside the container. Follow the destination requirements, then convert if needed; renaming the extension does not convert the media.
Export a short representative section before the entire recording. Include text, movement, quiet speech and louder sound. Compare the same moment with the original and look for unreadable lettering or cropped content. Smaller size alone is not a sufficient success criterion.
Check dimensions and orientation. Look for sideways portrait footage, unintended black borders and missing edges. Enlarging a small source does not restore lost detail. Choose the necessary output size and restart from the original rather than repeatedly encoding an already degraded copy.
Listen rather than relying only on a waveform. Check the beginning, middle and end for silence, one-sided sound or sudden volume changes. For screen capture, check microphone and system audio separately. If sound disappears, inspect the selected audio track and mute settings.
Check subtitles in the intended player. Separate subtitle files may need to travel with the video; selectable tracks and burned-in text behave differently. Compare dialogue near the beginning, middle and end to distinguish a fixed offset from drift before changing subtitle timing.
Reopen the actual exported file from the file manager, not just the editor preview. Inspect duration, size, audio and the final scene. If possible, use the recipient’s playback environment. Use clear version names so an older output is not accidentally shared.
Review privacy and sharing permission. Check recordings for notifications, account names or private conversations. Read upload and processing terms before using a website. An installed tool is not a complete security guarantee. Share only authorized material and retain originals, projects and finished files appropriately.
